Sea fishing in the Ria d'Étel: spots, species and best timing
Sea bass, gilthead bream, mackerel, pollack: the Ria d'Étel and the surrounding ocean offer anglers a remarkably rich playground in South Brittany. Here are the 5 spots to know around Le Moulin des Oies Campsite — what you'll catch, on which tides, and with what gear.

1. The Barre d'Étel — the iconic sea-bass pass

The Barre d'Étel is one of the most respected spots in Morbihan. As the falling tide creates violent currents at the river mouth, sea bass come to hunt the small fish sucked into the pass. Soft lures on jigheads, jigs or stickbaits work best at the end of the ebb and the start of the flood. Note: the currents are genuinely dangerous — only fish here in calm sea and on moderate tides.

2. Pointe du Mané Guen — bream and mackerel

2. Pointe du Mané Guen — bream and mackerel

This sandy-rocky point a few minutes from Belz offers an ideal post for gilthead bream in summer (crab, ragworm or razor clam as bait) and for mackerel in July-August, which hunt in tight surface shoals. Productive sessions at sunrise and sunset, when the water is calmer.

⭐ Plus : the discreet spot to bring back bream and mackerel without a dawn start

3. Kerhillio beach (Erdeven) — ocean surfcasting

3. Kerhillio beach (Erdeven) — ocean surfcasting

Just 10 minutes from the campsite, Kerhillio beach is one of the best-known surfcasting spots in southern Morbihan. The bigger the swell, the closer the bass hunt — pulled in by ragworms and sand fleas churned up by the rollers. 4 m rods, grip leads, 2- or 3-hook rigs. The best sessions often happen at night, on the early flood tide.

⭐ Plus : beach bass that hit hard in the surf

4. The port of Étel — boat fishing trips

4. The port of Étel — boat fishing trips

To reach bass over the rocky reefs, target pollack or troll for mackerel, two local partners run trips out of the port of Étel: Peskanim (fishing guide, technical sessions) and Escale Ria (accompanied half- or full-day trips). Exact formats and prices are best confirmed with them directly or via the campsite reception.

⭐ Plus : two local guides who know the zones inside out

5. The campsite's private beach — early morning session

5. The campsite's private beach — early morning session

For a short sunrise session or to introduce children to fishing, the campsite's private beach opens directly onto the Ria d'Étel. A few casts from shore, cockles and clams gathered on foot at low tide — and all of it 50 metres from your pitch. Ideal to skip the car-loading and head back for breakfast.

⭐ Plus : the comfort of fishing without leaving the site

🎯 Before you go: check the tides on maree.info and the minimum-size regulations in our shore-fishing guide. And to prepare your fishing stop in the best possible conditions, discover our campsite for anglers with fish-cleaning sink, private beach and partner sea trips.
