May holidays in the Morbihan: Brittany awakens
May bank holidays: the perfect getaway
The 2026 May bank holidays offer golden opportunities to escape to the seaside. 1 May (Labour Day) and 8 May (Victory 1945) fall midweek: the perfect chance to take a day or two off and enjoy a long weekend at the campsite.
At Le Moulin des Oies in Belz, these getaways have a special flavour. Picture this: arriving on a Friday evening, feet in the sand of our private beach, the sound of waves as your only Saturday alarm, and three days of total disconnection between the Ria d'Étel and the ocean.
“May bank holidays are the art of turning a weekend into a real holiday.”
Nature awakens on the Ria d'Étel
In May, the Ria d'Étel dons its finest colours. Flowering gorse covers the banks in gold, egrets and herons fly over the vast stretches of calm water, and temperatures climb up to 18-20°C, ideal for the first swims.
Our natural seawater pool is open and invites you to dive into water refreshed by the tides. On the private beach, children build their first sandcastles of the season while parents savour the calm of a preserved coastline.

Spring events and markets
May marks the start of the cultural season in the Morbihan. Open-air markets come back to life, festivals are announced and every coastal village vibrates to the rhythm of Breton traditions.
Must-see events:
- Auray market: On Monday morning, one of the finest markets in the Morbihan with its local producers, cheeses, ciders and fresh crêpes.
- Vannes market: Wednesday and Saturday, flowers, fresh fish and crafts in a splendid medieval setting.
- Étel market: Tuesday morning facing the harbour, fresh oysters and local vegetables.
- Maritime festivals: Early May, the Morbihan harbours celebrate the sea with gatherings of old riggers and tastings.

Hiking and outdoor activities
May is the ideal time for outdoor activities in South Brittany. Days lengthen, vegetation bursts with colour and coastal paths are still quiet, far from summer crowds.
Walk the GR34 between Belz and Quiberon, hop on a bike along the Ria d'Étel, or try sea kayaking between the islets. Fans of water sports will find perfect conditions: moderate wind, gentle sea and paddle spots accessible to all.
