1. Lorient: the most spectacular fireworks

1. Lorient: the most spectacular fireworks
The Lorient fireworks, fired from the Bassin à flot facing the harbour, are the most impressive in the region. The musical performance lasts around 25 minutes, with pyrotechnic effects reflecting on the water and on the hulls of moored sailboats. The event draws tens of thousands: arrive 1h30 to 2h before to find a spot on the quays or the Compagnie bridge. The city centre is totally saturated by car — prefer park-and-ride or take the train. Fireworks usually start around 11 p.m., taking advantage of the late Breton sunset. 25 minutes from the campsite by car.

2. Vannes: fireworks and medieval harbour

2. Vannes: fireworks and medieval harbour
The Vannes fireworks are among the most poetic in the west. Fired from the harbour, they light up the medieval ramparts and the moored pleasure boats. The best views are from Place Gambetta (very dense), along the marina, or higher up from the rampart gardens. Vannes is 45 minutes from the campsite — count return jams if you head back right after. Alternative: combine with a night in Vannes or enjoy an aperitif on the port beforehand. Fireworks around 11 p.m., approximately 20 minutes long.

⭐ Plus : fireworks over a medieval harbour, unique mood but further away

3. Quiberon: maritime fireworks from Port-Maria

3. Quiberon: maritime fireworks from Port-Maria
The Quiberon fireworks are fired from Port-Maria's jetty, creating a grand maritime show facing the Atlantic. The best views are from Port-Maria beach itself (very busy), the Pointe du Conguel (quieter and panoramic) or Port-Haliguen (magnificent side view). Quiberon is 30 minutes from the campsite, but the return can be slow on the isthmus. Bring a picnic to the beach before, and arrive around 9 p.m. to secure a spot. Fireworks around 10:30-11 p.m. The party then carries on in the port bars until dawn.

⭐ Plus : maritime fireworks facing the Atlantic, picnic on the beach

4. Étel: the close one, perfect for families

4. Étel: the close one, perfect for families
Just 10 minutes from the campsite, Étel's fireworks are our family favourite. Fired from the harbour, they offer a more intimate but equally beautiful show, with the Ria d'Étel as a mirror. The mood is pure village: barbecue, firemen's ball at the station, friendly local crowd. Fireworks usually start earlier than in big cities (around 10:30 p.m.) — ideal for children. Parking is easier, and the campsite is a quick drive back. Many campers head there by bike via the coastal greenway — a charming option in fair weather.

⭐ Plus : 10 min from the campsite, village atmosphere, family-perfect

5. Firemen's balls: the living tradition

5. Firemen's balls: the living tradition
The firemen's ball tradition remains extremely alive in Morbihan. Fire stations open their doors on the evening of July 13 (sometimes also July 14) for festive evenings with live orchestra, refreshments and food sold for the firefighters' charity. The Auray ball is the most renowned in the region — quality orchestra, joyful crowd, electric atmosphere. The Étel ball is more intimate and family-oriented. The Belz ball is accessible on foot from the campsite. Dress code: none, it's a popular and warm festival. Bring cash for drinks and food tickets, and come ready to dance to tunes from the 80s to today.

⭐ Plus : Auray, Étel, Belz: three firemen's balls, three vibes

6. Practical tips to nail your Bastille Day
A few tips from seasoned campers to enjoy Bastille Day in South Brittany at its best: (1) Check exact times at the end of June on town hall websites — they vary year to year depending on tide and local constraints. (2) Bring a blanket and mosquito repellent: evenings can be cool after 10 p.m., and the ria mosquitoes are active. (3) For Lorient and Vannes, use park-and-ride lots or come by train from Auray. (4) For young children, prefer Étel (starts earlier, done before midnight). (5) Book your Bastille Day stay at the campsite in spring: the first half of July is in high demand.
